Salma Hayek had her first big Hollywood part in Robert Rodriguez's Desperado. Later her fame grew with Frida and her Academy Award nomination. Hayek is also active with television shows, particularly as the director of Ugly Betty. Salma Hayek Jimenez, daughter of Spanish and Lebanese parents, was born in Mexico on the 2nd of September 1996 in Coatzacoalcos. Hayek was raised in an orthodox Catholic household, attended the Louisiana's Convent at age 12 old. She spent the rest of her teenage years at Houston, Texas with her aunt. Her acting career began after she quit a Mexico City university. Eventually, Hayek became the main character in Mexico's telenovelas. The film's first early roll-out was in 1991, Hayek relocated from California and moved to Los Angeles to work on her English. Her roles were limited before securing a major role in the 1995 film Desperado in which she starred alongside Antonio Banderas.
